Botox vs Collagen Injections by AboutPlasticSurgery

The following post is provided by AboutPlasticSurgery.com

It is an unfortunate but also undeniable fact that as we grow older, we begin to show physical signs of aging. However, by eating healthily and exercising regularly, we are able to delay many of the effects for quite a long time. One sign of aging that is unfortunately not reversible or able to be delayed simply by taking care of the body, though, is facial wrinkling. This is why many people who begin to notice themselves aging through the appearance of wrinkles turn to simple plastic surgery methods, in order to preserve their youth. These people are then faced with a choice between the popular anti-wrinkle surgeries, which are essentially botox or collagen injections. While extensive research on these two methods can be performed on plastic surgery websites such as AboutPlasticSurgery, this article will seek to provide you with at least a basic understanding of some of the differences between them.

Botox - The botox injection is, to some extent, the more "scientific" method for getting rid of wrinkles. Basically, here is how it works: wrinkles are actually the result of tenseness that arises in tiny muscles beneath the skin over time. A botox injection releases a fluid into your face that basically goes after these muscles, aiming to relax them and, through them, relax your face. Generally, wrinkled areas smooth themselves out.

Collagen - A collagen injection works differently to achieve the same goal. While collagen injections do not specifically attack the muscles, they instead put small amounts of fat into your face just beneath the surface of the skin. Essentially, this tiny bit of fat will "fill" the area beneath the wrinkles, stretching the facial skin out just enough to smooth out the wrinkled area. The result should be a more youthful and attractive appearance.

For the most part, both of these methods are practiced enough to be fairly effective and reliable. However, many people are slightly against the Botox method, simply because it has more potential side effects. While there is no specific danger (seeing as allergic reactions are extremely rare and almost unheard of) or health risk, it is not altogether uncommon for botox patients to experience some small loss of muscle control. For example, some botox patients find themselves unable to fully lift their eyelids for a brief period following the injection. Ultimately, the method you choose is entirely based on your personal preferences; however, it is worth knowing a few differences between the two methods, so as to best set yourself up to lose your wrinkles.
