The longest-term solutions to unwanted facial hair are laser hair removal and electrolysis. That said, not everyone is willing or able to undergo those kinds of treatments. If you’ve got unwanted facial hair, you’ve got several options when it comes to home remedies.
Let’s take a look at a handful of ways you can get rid of facial hair at home:
- Tweezing. Tweezing can hurt like heck, but it’s effective. All you need is a pair of slanted-tip tweezers, and you’re off and plucking. This is a great way to get rid of occasional or “spotty” facial hair, such as the occasional crazy eyebrow. It’s probably not the best way to remove most facial hair, however. It’s going to leave your skin very irritated and very red, and takes longer to heal.
- Shaving. Let’s get this straight from the beginning: shaving is for legs (and men’s faces). When you shave, you run the risk that the hair will grow back thicker and darker. It also doesn’t last very long, because you’re not removing the hair from the root. It’s especially no good around your eyebrows, as the tweezers are usually wide enough so as to inhibit control around those finer areas of facial hair.
- Sugaring. This is similar to waxing, but it’s much better for women with sensitive skin. It’s also ideal if you’re interested in a vegan or cruelty-free lifestyle. Many different recipes for the concoction can be found online, so definitely give a few a try before discounting this effective method.
- Waxing. Home waxing kits are great for facial hair removal at home. Take care around the eyebrows so that you don’t take too much off. Make sure you follow the kit’s directions carefully. Waxing should give you anywhere between three and eight weeks before you need to do it again.
- Chemical hair removal. Creams like Nair can be used to remove facial hair at home. Be careful here; if you get those chemicals in your eyes, you can wind up with some serious trouble, including vision problems. Before you use a chemical cream hair removal product on your face, test it on a small patch first to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction.
Obviously, these methods can range from quite inexpensive (such as with tweezing or sugaring) to much more expensive (as will chemical hair removal). The method you choose depends largely on how much effort you want to put into it, and how often you have to repeat the process. Give some of these methods a try, and see which one works best for you!

What about laser hair removal at home? This isn't a good solution? Or it isn't a good solution at home. Last year I did a laser hair removal Toronto treatment for my legs but in a cosmetic clinic. Now for facial hair I don't know if this is safe, especially at home.....and I would prefer laser because it is the only long lasting solution.....What do you think?

ReplyDelete@Avril - this post is about hair removal at home. Laser hair removal is not available at home.
ReplyDelete@Donna - sugaring is similar to waxing. There's a certain formula for creating either a gel or paste, then you lay it on the skin and remove it. The way you remove it depends on if you made a sugar gel or a sugar paste, but in the end, it is similar to waxing.
There are some options of laser hair removal at home, at least what's what I read. The one that people say is the best is TRIA laser hair removal, and it can be used at home.
ReplyDelete@ Donna Sugaring is a method used by the ancient Egyptians, and like Laura said, is the grandma of waxing if you want. The Egyptians also invented shaving.....I can tell you more about this if you like:P
