Review: Dove's NEW Cream Oil Shea Butter Body Wash

A few weeks ago I received a bottle of Dove® Shea Butter Cream Oil Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™ (or SBCOBW from here on out) to review for you guys. I said yes immediately because I knew that I liked Dove® body washes, and I was already using and loving one of them, so I had reason to believe this one would be good, too.

Sorry the bottle is "dirty" with the product - but you can tell I truly have been using it!

The thing I noticed most when I first tried the product was how thick it is. I've used plenty of other body washes, some Dove® and then a variety of other brands, and usually when I squeeze it onto a pouf, it spreads out and down quickly. No matter if they're a gel or cream, they tend to be thinner and really soak down into the pouf. SBCOBW didn't do that. It was thick and just sat there on the pouf. While I do like that other products get deeper into the pouf from the get go, I feel like those products are thinner, less rich, and just a bit less effective. I know that they clean, and that's why I use them, but with SBCOBW I could just tell it was going to be more moisturizing than any wash I've used before.

So I squeezed a bit onto my pink pouf and started to scrub a dub dub. I always like to start small when trying something new because you just don't know how far it's going to go, and nobody wants to end up with wasted product, right? I used just a smidge more than what's pictured above. I'd guess maybe a nickel more. I started on my legs, like I always do, and immediately noticed how creamy the lather was. With most washes, I get large bubbles, and the wash doesn't really coat my skin. I felt like SBCOBW was really blanketing my skin, and not dripping off like other products. Still, it felt light, not heavy. And the amount I had more than covered my whole body - and who are we kidding, I'm a big girl, so that's a lot of space to cover! Other products feel so thin and watery sometimes, that I put more on my pouf before I've washed my whole body. The bottle mentions a "rich, creamy lather" and they ain't lyin'!

When I had my legs done, and was moving onto my arms, I realized that I hadn't really sniffed the soap yet. Initially, I had assume that I wouldn't like the scent of the product. Shea butter, cocoa butter, and the like really don't appeal to my nose and I'm not a huge fan of sweet scents so when I saw the "vanilla and brown sugar" bit on the bottle, I hesitated. It was for not. The scent was really faint, and not bad at all. I actually smelled it several times, and since then I've smelled my skin a lot because I keep expecting my mind to change. I keep expecting the smell to get stronger or sweeter. But nope. Hasn't happened. My worries about smelling like a bakery went out the window.

I kept noticing how velvety my lathered skin felt in the shower, and afterward, too. Gone was my dry, ashy, winter skin! I didn't feel like I needed to moisturize my body with lotion once I got out of the shower, and the one day that I didn't do it, my skin stayed nice, soft, and moisturized for a long time. Surprisingly long. Before this, if had I forgotten to moisturize, it was more than obvious. I truly felt like my skin was being given something, rather than having anything taken away (aside from dirt!). Click here to see the science behind NutriumMoisture™ and just how this all works.

One down side to this product is that there are no exfoliating properties like the other Dove® wash I've been using lately. My solution to that has been to use SBCOBW all the time, except switching it out for my exfoliating wash once a week. I get the benefits of my exfoliating wash when I need it, but get the moisture from SBCOBW the rest of the time, which is more important for me during this drying time of year. The pouf exfoliates enough most of the time anyway.

I cannot imagine not repurchasing this body wash once I run out (though that will take awhile consider the size of the bottle and how little product is needed). It exceeded my expectations and did what it claimed!

I'm giving Dove® Shea Butter Cream Oil Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™ 5 out of 5 stilettos because I really just can't think of any reason to dock it a stiletto.
