Piercing Party
Saturday night I went to a piercing party, which was pretty fun :)
My new friend Sarah's husband pierces and tattoos, so she and my friend Leigh set up a piercing party at another friend's (Whitney) house. Got some gals together and Scott came over with a bunch of supplies and his apprentice, and pierced everyone wanted to be for a discounted price. I ended up redoing a few piercings I had previously, but had taken out for one reason or another. I got my lip, my nose, and my nipples done.
Here are some pictures from that :)
Me & Marni

Whitney, Marni, & Theresa

Me, Leigh, & Sarah

Whitney getting her Monroe

Leigh piercing her cartilage

Theresa piercing her nose

So overall, it was a fun time. Definitely a bonding experience for friends. Plus we all got cute piercings for $10 cheaper than we normally would. I would totally recommend this as something to do with your girlfriends if you know someone who can keep things clean and sanitary during the process.
There was girl who got pierced, but she's underage so I'm not going to post a picture of her here. Plus another friend from above got a piercing that's a little private, so I'm not going to discuss it or anything here without her permission.

New hair!
So I decided to change up my hair :) My favorite hairstyle and color on myself has been when it's short and dark, so I decided to suck it up and go for it. I hate dealing with my roots every 3 weeks, but I'll deal with it to be really happy with my hair. I'm growing out my bangs because I'm over them, so I've been pinning them back a lot until they're long enough to swoop to the side.
These pictures were taken a couple of weeks apart, hence the different makeup. I'm just using these as the example pictures because I happen to be wearing the same shirt in both.
As always with the tiny pictures, click to enlarge

Bridal makeup - Brittany
A little over a week ago, one of my best friends announced that she was getting married! She and her then boyfriend have been together for three years and are expecting their first child in March. Jon is an ex US Marine and currently in the Coast Guard, but he has to leave shortly and will be gone for just a few months for some training and he and Brittany decided it best to get married now, for various personal reasons. I was so excited when she announced that she was pregnant, and even more so when she told me about the wedding. How special for her! She's going to be such a wonderful mother, and she and Jon are so in love.
Anyway, she asked me to do her makeup for her wedding and of course I said yes :) The wedding was small, with a headcount of 25 people or so (including the bride and groom). It was held at the home of the mother of the bride. Ceremony outside, reception in and outside. Very casual and laid back - keeping the focus on the true point of a wedding, which isn't about spending gobs of money to show off or to feed a bunch of people (who you may not know that well) an expensive meal. It's about the bride and groom being surrounded by those closest to them, whom they love and cherish and who feel just the same about them, while celebrating their official union. It was beautifully simple and simply beautiful.
To give you a taste of the bride: She's a little more tomboy than girlie girl. She loves camping and fishing, off roading and mixed martial arts. She describes herself as being pretty clueless when it comes to makeup, but she loves shopping and getting her hair done. She probably really wouldn't ever wear makeup if it weren't for her job, and she doesn't wear much when she does at all. And lucky her, she doesn't really need it anyway. Up until a few months ago, she only owned one makeup brush, had never filled in her eyebrows, and had never worn false eyelashes. She's a beautiful girl, and she values simplicity so when doing her makeup, I kept that in mind.
And now on to the makeup, which is what you're really here for, right ;)
Please click the photos to enlarge them. Due to their width, I can't post the full size and have each one show up in its entirety

Torrid haul
My 23rd birthday is next week (the 19th), and I decided to get some friends together for dinner and dancing on the following Friday (the 21st). Of course since it's my birthday, I wanted to have something new to wear. I'd spent forever looking for something I liked. I mean, I was literally browsing online for hours every night. I had finally found something I was almost positive I was going to get, but I didn't do it right away. Of course when I finally decided to, they were out of it in my size. Major bummer. Being a newer item, I couldn't and specific to that store, I couldn't locate it anywhere else. So the hunt continued...
I invited myself along to run errands with my mom last week. She had to go to the mall for something, so while she did her thing, I journeyed over to Torrid. I was pretty positive there was nothing there that I wanted to wear. I had looked at their website numerous times and found nothing that appealed to me. While trying things on mostly out of boredom, I actually found something I liked. Took a picture, sent it to a friend, and got the approval.
So here's a picture of the dress, along with other things I picked up there. Not all of it is for my birthday, and some accessories will be worn more than my daughter than myself.

White Cherry Chiffon Print Black Halter Dress $78.00

Black Large-Button Cadet Cap $16.00

Fuchsia Mini Butterfly Feather Hair Clip 2-Pack $5.98

White Dahlia Purple Butterfly Hair Clip and Pin $10.98

Pink and Mauve Flower Cluster Hair Clip $10.98

Turquiose Glitter Large Butterfly Feather Hair Clip $7.98

Peacock Fuchsia Turquoise Feather Hair Clip $11.98

Purple and Gold Foil Star Brief $5.98

Hot-Pink and Silver Lurex Lace Brief $5.98

Pink and Fuchsia Mesh Ruffle Brief $5.98

Pink and Silver Ruffle Mesh Cheeky Short $8.98
So bottom line is I went to browse, and bought way too much. Almost all was on clearance... I think the only two things that weren't were the hat and the dress. And I haven't bought so much full-butt underwear since I was 16 lol. But I'm happy with my purchases. And I know my daughter is particularly excited about the butterflies lol.
Stay tuned for my Icing haul. That one I have to take pictures of myself, so it'll be a few days.

MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics
Is it just me, or is MAC completely ignoring the fact that we're in a recession right now? Releasing such a huge collection at this point leave me scratching my head in wonder. I realize that this huge financial problem is a US thing, and MAC doesn't sell exclusively to the states, but it does suck to see such a big and awesome collection being launched right now knowing that a lot of us will be forced to miss out on some great products in order to save much needed dough.
Oh well! They didn't ask for my opinion ;) On to the information!
The Makeup Art Cosmetics collection has a US release date of August 20th, 2009 (just a day after my birthday!) and an international release date of September 2009. This collection is all about makeup as an art which is really what MAC was originally all about. For those who weren't aware, MAC actually stands for makeup art cosmetics. MAC formed this pretty massive collection with the help of three artists; Richard Phillips, Maira Kalman, and Marilyn Minter.
