I was thinking that occasionally, I'll post a question that was asked either to myself personally, or elsewhere on the internet, along with the answer I gave. Hopefully it'll help out someone else who may be experiencing the same or similar issue.
*Please remember that I am not a professional (yet) and that my answers contain much of my opinion, mixed with things I've learned from various sources over the years.*Question: my face is red in certain spots. i bought this anti-redness lotion for my face at target and i’ve noticed, it kind of makes those spots redder. now, i don’t use foundation anymore because a.) it made me break out so bad and b.) my nostril piercings are still healing and as soon as i get any partical of make up on them, i get bumps on my nose. does anyone have any cheap suggestions? i can’t really afford anything expensive. i was looking in to the clinque ant-redness stuff but that’s just waay too expensive for me. any other ideas?
also, my eyeliner always ends up under my eyes no matter what i do. i look like a fricken raccoon by the middle of the day and it just makes me look like complete crap. i have the gel liner from urban decay (the 24 hours one which, does not stay on for 24 hours) and sometimes i’ll put black eyeshadow on top of that to hold it but it still ends up under my eyes. any suggestions with that?!
Answer: My suggestion would be to stop using anything on your face for a few days to a week. Then slowly start introducing foundation back into your routine. Some foundations do break people out, yes, but sometimes your skin just has to get used to it and that can take as long as 3-4 weeks in some cases.
Just apply the foundation around the piercing with a small brush. Leave a few centimeters of space around the piercing until it heals if you have to. That's really the only thing you can do.
Rather than trying several drug store foundations, due to cost, and finding out that they don’t work, I would make a trip to Clinique and have them determine which foundation of theirs best suits your need. This way you’ll end up with one foundation that has a higher chance of worker than wasting money on multiple that may not work. In the end, you could end up paying the same price, and Clinique foundations are not
that expensive. They’re the cost of a couple drug store foundations. And I’m suggesting Clinique because they are targeted towards those with skin imperfections and will be less likely to cause a breakout, if you’re prone to them, than some brands with heavier foundations. Looking into a mineral foundation would probably also be wise.
The best long term solution is to invest in good skin care products and develop a good routine. This is another time I’d suggest Clinique, and one of their 3 step systems. No, it isn’t cheap. It’s an investment. When it comes to makeup and beauty products in general, one saying is nearly always true; you get what you pay for. You really can’t expect fabulous results from a cheap product. Cheap products often have cheap ingredients and will not help you out. That’s not always true of course, but typically the ones who get the best results from inexpensive makeup are the ones who have a practically flawless face to start with.
To minimize the appearance of redness, you should also purchase a green based concealer or primer. Green will cancel out any red. If I were you, I would get the Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer in "Adjust" (the green one). It’s $38 but a little bit goes a long way, and it should last you for a long time. For a cheaper alternative, check out NYX Cosmetics. They have a jarred green concealer, a green concealer stick, and a green concealer with wand each for only $5.
As far as the eyeliner goes, you should use the black eyeshadow to seal (when you’re using black eyeliner) all of the time, not just sometimes. Get a flat or angled brush and really press it onto the eyeliner. You’ll always want to use a concealer and/or liquid foundation on your bottom eyelid and under eye area, then set it with a powder to help create a barrier. If neither of those work, you may just need to switch brands of eyeliner. I have no problem with the Wet n Wild pencils.
